In our final week, we want to go for an understanding of the big picture, as well as clarify issues and fill in any gaps in our learning.
I invite you to post questions, issues, or topics for discussion as responses to this blog post. Then I'll try to plan our class meetings around your interests.
What do you want to know more about? What would you like to have a shot at clarifying? What insights would you like to share with us for discussion? Anything about rhetoric is open for discussion.
Enjoy!

Peter Ramus was undoubtedly an arrogant and abrasive person, but in the end was he right about what education came to? His model of education was throw out the classical works, teach every student study skills and let them study on their own. He was also a big advocate for teaching in the vernacular languages which is what we do now. We don't talk like the classics should be thrown out, but isn't that effectively what our education system has done?
ReplyDeleteI don't want Ramus to be right but I think he might be
If I hadn't taken English 360 I would have graduated with a degree in English without ever reading any of the things covered in this class.
